In 2017 Hurricane Irma struck the island of Cuba causing serious damage to the island’s infrastructure – the worst hurricane to hit the country in close to a century. Following a major cleanup and restoration operation, the island was ready to welcome visitors once again. Travel brand Gaviota asked us to create an uplifting campaign that would put Cuba top of mind as a vibrant and unforgettable destination while showcasing their hotel properties on the island. Customer research indicated that the awareness of the country’s regions was low beyond Havana and Varadero, so the campaign also needed to boost awareness of the different destinations to choose from on the island. To increase awareness of Cuba as a desirable destination we created an extensive display campaign using inspiring video combined with a soundtrack of iconic Cuban rhythms and clever use of the Cuban flag as a visual device. Campaign ads were served online, digitally, across social media, in-store, in print, and also via a parallel influencer campaign. As part of the video content we created an animated map highlighting the different regions and the various activities available in each, educating visitors on the different experiences available on the island. The campaign generated an incredible 3.6 million video views with a reach of over 9.5 million, delivering outstanding results for Gaviota.
